The Supreme Court has amended its previous order regarding stray dogs in the Delhi-NCR region. The earlier restriction on the release of these animals from shelters has been lifted, provided the dogs are sterilized and vaccinated before being returned to their original locations.

In a ruling led by Justice Vikram Nath, alongside Justices Sandeep Mehta and N V Anjaraia, the Court emphasized that infected or aggressive dogs would not benefit from this order. Civic authorities are now tasked with setting up designated feeding zones based on local stray dog populations, thereby prohibiting feeding them in street areas.

As part of a larger, national approach, all states and territories have been included in this case, transferring related cases for a comprehensive review. The changes follow a report highlighting rabies threats amid rising stray dog incidents.
