The Supreme Court's recent directive on the Bihar Special Intensive Revision has met with approval from the Indian National Congress. The party expressed that democracy had overcome a 'brutal assault' by the Election Commission of India, which it claims has been exposed and discredited.
According to the Congress, the Supreme Court's order allows voters excluded from the electoral roll to submit claims via online channels, in addition to physical submissions. This follows the court's intervention on August 14, which mandated the publication of deleted voter lists with explanations and confirmed Aadhaar as a valid form of identification.
Congress general secretaries Jairam Ramesh and K C Venugopal emphasized the ruling as a reprimand to the ECI's obstructionist approach. The court has ordered political parties to participate actively and urged the ECI to acknowledge submissions by party booth-level agents.
