A 54-year-old tribal man, Vellayan, endured a harrowing six days of captivity and assault at a resort in Muthalmada, according to police reports on Friday.

Vellayan, from the Moochakundu area, was rescued late Thursday night after local officials and activists intervened following a tip-off. The incident reportedly began with Vellayan consuming liquor at the resort.

Local councillor Kalpana Devi and Dalit activists played a pivotal role in his rescue, and Vellayan is currently receiving treatment at Palakkad District Hospital. Police have registered a case, while the resort owner and employees remain at large.
