The Maharashtra government has uncovered a significant number of potentially ineligible beneficiaries enrolled in the Ladki Bahin scheme. State Minister Aditi Tatkare announced that 26 lakh individuals have been flagged, pending physical verification by district authorities.
As part of the scrutiny process, detailed assessments are underway to ensure that the benefits are extended only to eligible candidates. The Ladki Bahin scheme supports women aged 21 to 65 with a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500, aimed at those earning under Rs 2.5 lakh annually.
Further investigations revealed multiple claims from single families and, in some instances, applications by men. Instructions have been issued to align with eligibility criteria and resume fund transfers where genuine cases are verified.
