Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad raised concerns on Monday regarding the Salwa Judum verdict issued by retired Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, who is now the INDIA bloc's vice-presidential candidate. Prasad accused the ruling of demonstrating an inclination towards Maoism.
Justice B Sudershan Reddy, along with Justice SS Nijjar, had ordered the disbanding of Salwa Judum in 2011, ruling it illegal to use tribal youths as Special Police Officers in the anti-Maoist fight. Prasad highlighted this judgement as reflecting Reddy's alleged pro-Maoist stance.
Prasad and Amit Shah criticized Reddy's verdict, arguing it hampered efforts against Maoism. Despite previous government support for Salwa Judum, Reddy's nomination by the opposition has reignited discussions. Eighteen retired judges criticized these attacks, urging an end to name-calling while defending judicial review rights.
