Concerned with the erosion of dignity within legislative assemblies, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla issued a call to action to all stakeholders, from members of Parliament to political parties, during his closing address at the All India Speakers Conference in Delhi.

Birla underscored the need for presiding officers to remain impartial and maintain the integrity of legislative sessions. Highlighting a decline in the intention behind freedom of speech in the House, he reflected on the privileges guaranteed by the Constitution, stressing that the Houses should focus on meaningful debate and public interest.

Stressing the importance of decorum, Birla urged members to rise above partisan interests, appeal to the voices of the electorate, and maintain a respectful discourse both inside and outside the legislative chambers to ensure democracy thrives through freedom of speech and dignified conduct.
