The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in New Delhi, the only museum in the world dedicated to narrating the collective journey of all of India’s Prime Ministers, is set to mark a historic milestone in the way history is presented and experienced. On 17th September 2025, the Sangrahalaya will unveil a life-size AI-powered Holobox of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, blending heritage with cutting-edge technology to bring the Iron Man of India alive for future generations.
A Living Museum of Prime Ministers
Since its inauguration, the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya has stood out for its immersive exhibits that showcase the lives, vision, and legacies of India’s Prime Ministers. Visitors are guided through an interactive journey featuring rare artefacts, personal belongings, archival footage, and multimedia installations that bring alive India’s democratic journey from 1947 to the present day.
Now, with the addition of AI-powered holographic technology, the museum is entering a new phase of innovation in experiential storytelling.
Hyper-Realistic Interaction with Sardar Patel
For the first time, visitors will be able to hold lifelike, interactive conversations with a hyper-realistic 3D avatar of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The Holobox, powered by advanced artificial intelligence, will respond to questions posed by visitors, offering insights into Patel’s philosophy, vision of national unity, and pivotal decisions such as the integration of princely states into the Indian Union.
“This AI-powered Holobox is more than just a technological marvel. It is a bridge between the past and the present — an effort to make the wisdom of our great leaders accessible and engaging to younger generations,” said Shri Ashwani Lohani, Director of the Prime Ministers Museum & Library.
By combining historical authenticity with cutting-edge digital engagement, the Sangrahalaya aims to deepen historical consciousness among youth while creating a benchmark in museum innovation.
Linking History with Technology and Legacy
The date of 17th September was chosen for its dual historical significance. On this day in 1948, the success of Operation Polo liberated Hyderabad from the rule of the Nizam, integrating it into the Indian Union under Patel’s decisive leadership. Two years later, in 1950, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was born, a leader who decades later would give fresh momentum to Patel’s vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat (One India, Great India).
“The Holobox is a manifestation of the ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ spirit — a tribute to the man who shaped modern India and a reflection of Prime Minister Modi ji’s vision to combine heritage with high technology,” said Shri Rajendra Chandan Pugalia, CEO of Planetarium & Sangrahalaya.
Future Plans: From Patel to Kalam
Building on the success of this initiative, the Sangrahalaya is already working on creating another life-size Holobox — this time of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, India’s beloved “People’s President” and one of the nation’s foremost scientists. This expansion aims to inspire generations not only with Patel’s leadership in unifying India but also with Kalam’s vision of innovation, science, and youth empowerment.
A Global Benchmark in Experiential History
The unveiling of the Holobox marks a global first in museum technology, setting a new standard for how history can be preserved and presented. By enabling real-time interaction with historical figures, the Sangrahalaya is creating an immersive space where heritage meets innovation.
It reflects the Government’s broader vision of blending India’s civilisational legacy with modern technology, ensuring that the lessons of history remain relevant, engaging, and inspiring for generations to come.
Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future
The AI-powered Holobox not only honours Patel’s decisive role in forging India’s unity but also represents the spirit of a forward-looking India where technology is harnessed to strengthen historical understanding. As Patel unified India geographically, the Holobox aspires to unify India’s youth with its historical consciousness, bridging past, present, and future in a seamless continuum.
