A New York state judge has dismissed terrorism charges against Luigi Mangione in the murder case of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The judge retained the state's second-degree murder charge, indicating the killing was a planned execution and not an act of terror.

Judge Gregory Carro stated that while Mangione's actions displayed animosity toward the health insurance industry, they lacked the intent to intimidate or coerce the public, a key component of terrorism charges. Federal prosecutors also chose not to pursue terrorism charges.

The courtroom witnessed significant public interest, with supporters of Mangione donning green attire in solidarity. As proceedings continue, Mangione faces both state and federal murder charges, with potential life imprisonment if convicted.
