Cracking Down on Cybercrime: Jharkhand Police Halt Illegal SIM Trade

In a significant operation, Jharkhand Police have arrested an individual implicated in the procurement of hundreds of SIM cards used for cybercrime activities. According to officials, the arrest was made on Wednesday at Navadih village after repeated complaints about frauds committed with SIM cards obtained through fake identities had emerged.
Jamtara Superintendent of Police, Rajkumar Mehta, informed that the arrested person, Akbar Hussain, procured 377 illegal SIM cards from a supplier in Assam, which were destined to be sold to cybercriminals across Jamtara and adjacent districts. The team, led by cyber police station in-charge Manoj Kumar Mahato, recovered the SIM cards during the raid.
The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation, aiming to trace the broader network involved in this illegal trade. Among other items seized were two mobile phones, ATM cards, an Aadhaar card, and an Indigo flight ticket, indicating the suspect's frequent travel to Assam for these activities. Jamtara has earned a reputation as a hub for cybercrime, amplifying the significance of this crackdown.
