The Supreme Court, on Friday, turned down a petition challenging the Karnataka government's invitation to International Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq for the Mysuru Dasara inauguration. The ruling upholds a Karnataka High Court decision.

A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta dismissed the appeal lodged by H S Gaurav against the High Court's September 15 order. The festival is set to commence on September 22.

The plea claimed that the inauguration rituals at Chamundeshwari Temple, which are integral religious practices protected by the Constitution's Article 25, cannot be performed by non-Hindus as they follow specific Agamic traditions.
