The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal from activist and poet P Varavara Rao to modify a bail condition restricting his movements. Rao, involved in the 2018 Bhima Koregaon case, cannot leave Greater Mumbai without the trial court's permission.
Rao's legal representative emphasized his declining health and the absence of caretakers since his wife's relocation to Hyderabad. However, the court maintained its stance, advising Rao to approach the same court or rely on government medical care.
Rao's arrest in 2018 at his Hyderabad home led to his under-trial status in the Bhima Koregaon violence case. Released on medical bail in 2021, his condition and the pending trial have prolonged the legal battles. The case is linked to inflammatory speeches and alleged Maoist ties, now under NIA investigation.
