A young woman from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, believed to be a victim of an alleged 'love jihad', was successfully rescued from a remote village in Assam, officials reported on Friday.

The term 'love jihad' is often utilized by right-wing factions to allege that Muslim men are deliberately converting Hindu women through marriage. Concerned about his missing daughter, the woman's father registered a complaint, which led law enforcement to delve into the matter.

Investigations revealed that Assamese youth Soif Abdul Manafuddin had enticed the woman and transported her to Assam. Despite challenges in tracking their location due to the man's strategic phone usage, Gandhinagar police located and recovered the woman. She was reunited with her family on Friday, though no arrest was made as the woman was of legal age.
