A French couple is training rigorously in the Mediterranean for a daring three-month relay swim across the Atlantic, hoping to etch their names in the record books. Matthieu Witvoet and Chloe Leger Witvoet plan to embark from Cape Verde, November 1, for a 3,800-kilometer swim to Guadeloupe.

With each taking six-hour shifts daily, the couple aims to set records for the longest female ocean crossing and the longest swimming relay "with drifting." This means the accompanying boat they will rest on will drift overnight, contributing to the distance covered.

Beyond the physical feat, their expedition holds a deeper purpose—to raise awareness for ocean protection. Over 63,000 schoolchildren have enrolled in an educational program linked to their journey, offering insights into ocean biodiversity and pollution. "Even if we don't complete the swim, our mission to raise awareness remains a priority," Leger noted.
