In a significant development, Dillip Kumar Nayak, a leader from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has been arrested for his alleged involvement in defrauding a realtor of Rs 12.42 crore in Cuttack, Odisha. The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch apprehended Nayak on charges related to multiple land transactions and unfulfilled commitments.
Investigations reveal the ordeal began with Nayak receiving Rs 3 crore from the complainant, Bijay Rout, between 2015 and 2017, followed by further significant sums over the years. Nayak, who was poised to contest from the Nimapara seat against the sitting Deputy CM, allegedly promised plots in prime locations but failed to deliver.
Key documents, including sale deeds and agreements, have been confiscated by police enforcement, implicating Nayak in the substantial financial mismanagement. Despite partial repayment of Rs 1 crore, the evidence underscores a considerable breach of trust involving both Rout and his family.
