Odisha's Alarming Statistics: A Surge in Crimes Against Women
Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed that 37,611 crimes against women were reported between June 2024 and July 2025. Among these were rape, molestation, and dowry-related offenses. In a startling revelation, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Monday that 37,611 cases of crimes against women were reported in the state over a span of 14 months. The cases range from rape to molestation and dowry-related torture, highlighting a significant social issue that demands urgent attention.
Majhi detailed that 2,933 rape cases, 9,181 molestation cases, and 8,227 kidnapping/abduction incidents were registered between June 2024 and July 2025. The chief minister assured that preventive measures, including increased surveillance and specialized investigative units, have been implemented to enhance women's safety.
To address these alarming rates, the state has set up 24 Special POCSO courts and various monitoring units. CCTV surveillance has been expanded in many districts, and efforts are underway to improve public safety and monitor sensitive cases involving women and children across Odisha.
