In a startling revelation, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi confirmed that the incident involving a minor girl in Puri district was a self-immolation case. Initially reported as an attack, Majhi clarified the situation during an Assembly session on Monday.

According to Majhi's statement, the girl succumbed to her injuries on August 2 after being airlifted to AIIMS, New Delhi. Originally, the victim's mother reported that her daughter had been attacked by unidentified persons.

The investigation revealed that from June 2024 to August 2025, there were 15 self-immolation cases involving women and girls reported in Odisha. The number highlighted a disturbing trend that the state government is investigating closely.
