In a swift response to a cyber fraud incident, Bengaluru police have successfully recovered Rs 14 lakh lost by Preeti, wife of Chikkaballapura BJP MP K Sudhakar, through a scam called 'digital arrest.'
This elaborate scheme involved fraudsters impersonating police officials through WhatsApp calls, threatening Preeti with arrest over alleged illegal financial transactions. The scam artists extracted the substantial sum by posing as Mumbai Cyber Crime officials, creating a sense of urgency to lure in their victim.
Preeti's quick report to the police, alongside notifying the National Cyber Helpline, facilitated the immediate block of the transaction. This led to the 47th ACJM Court ordering YES Bank to return the amount. Police officials emphasize the importance of timely reporting to curb such scams in the future.
