In an unprecedented move, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Chamoli has committed to providing legal and administrative aid to soldiers posted at Rimkhim near the China border in Uttarakhand. The initiative aims to address domestic issues faced by military personnel stationed far from home.
This significant effort was marked by the first legal literacy and awareness camp in the Rimkhim area near Barahoti Pass. DLSA officials provided legal advice on family disputes and administrative matters to soldiers at border posts. These soldiers, often unable to frequently visit home, discussed various challenges, including property dealings and unresolved personal matters.
Puneet Kumar, Secretary of the DLSA and Civil Judge, highlighted that these soldiers were counseled on legal resources. One soldier's land mutation issue, pending for two years, and a dispute related to marriage were among the concerns raised. To aid continual support, a front office has been set up, offering access to a retainer lawyer.
