In a tragic turn of events in Himachal Pradesh's Paonta Sahib on Tuesday, three young men were swept away by the mighty currents of the Yamuna river. The missing individuals include two brothers, Amit (23) and Rajneesh (20), along with their friend Kamlesh (22), all hailing from Gawali village in Sirmaur's Shillai region.
The trio had recently returned from Haridwar after participating in a religious procession and taking a holy dip in the Ganga. Following a pause at Paonta Sahib for the local deity's rest, they decided to take a refreshing dip in the Yamuna. Tragically, what began as a routine activity quickly turned perilous when one began to drown, prompting the others to attempt a rescue. However, they were all swept away.
Immediate rescue efforts were led by Sub-divisional Magistrate Gunjit Singh Cheema and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Manvendra Singh Thakur. A rescue operation is underway with a team of divers attempting to locate the missing men, who are yet to be traced.
