A significant cross-border smuggling network was dismantled by authorities in Amritsar with the apprehension of five individuals and the seizure of 1.50 kg of heroin and 12 pistols, according to police reports on Thursday.
Preliminary investigations have identified Joban Singh and Jashanpreet Singh among the suspects, revealing their direct links with smugglers based in Pakistan. Communication for the trafficking operations was conducted through social media platforms, as per Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav's statement on X.
The seized contraband was intended to intensify gang rivalries within Punjab, stated the DGP. The case has been registered under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances Act at the Gate Hakima police station. Further investigations are in progress to disclose the network's complete structure and connections.
