Authorities in Thane district's Bhiwandi town are investigating a case involving a massive fraud against a local co-operative credit society. Two individuals, including a woman, allegedly secured loans worth Rs 28.30 lakh by mortgaging fake jewellery.

The scam was uncovered after the credit society, located in the Kalher area, verified the authenticity of the pledged ornaments. The accused are identified as local residents Ritu Sandeep Singh and Rajan Shukla.

The police have initiated an investigation to locate the suspects and recover the defrauded amount. The case was filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after the society lodged a complaint.
