Security has been heightened across four districts in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly division in preparation for Dussehra, according to officials. The government has deployed police, PAC, and RAF personnel, with drones monitoring the situation from above.
A directive from the home department mandates a 48-hour suspension of mobile internet, broadband, and SMS services in Bareilly to prevent the misuse of social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp, for spreading rumors and instigating communal tension.
This action arises from an incident on September 26, where a protest by cleric Tauqeer Khan over the 'I Love Muhammad' poster was canceled, leading to a confrontation with around 2,000 individuals and subsequent stone-pelting outside a mosque in the Kotwali area.
