Supreme Court Petition Filed Over Sonam Wangchuk's Controversial Detention

Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of renowned climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, has lodged a plea in the Supreme Court protesting his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). Wangchuk was detained after protests demanding statehood for Ladakh left four dead. He is currently in Jodhpur jail, Rajasthan.

The plea, filed through senior lawyers, questions the use of the NSA against Wangchuk, and claims that his detention violates fundamental rights. Angmo seeks the immediate release of her husband and requests the court to produce Wangchuk before it. The plea highlights the impact of Wangchuk's detention on the Ladakh community and HIAL.

The petition calls for humane treatment of Wangchuk by authorities and a cessation of harassment against HIAL members. It also demands the submission of Wangchuk's detention order and medical assessment to the court, stressing the detrimental psychological effects on the local population.
