The police in Thane district have registered a case against a brick kiln owner accused of coercing a 13-year-old girl into bonded labour. The victim, from the Katkari tribal community, was rescued from a kiln in Bhiwandi, with authorities alleging that her employment stemmed from a debt her mother incurred for medical expenses.
The accused, Bhushan Kaluram Pardhi, allegedly forced the child to work under severe conditions after her mother, who initially worked at the kiln, became unwell and unable to continue. Reports indicate that despite the girl's rescue, he threatened her family and attempted to forcibly take her back to work.
While police say no arrests have been made yet, investigations continue. The case highlights the exploitation faced by tribal communities and the persistent issue of child labour in India.
