In a worrying escalation of violence, a policeman was killed and a paramilitary personnel injured during an attack by terrorists on a police checkpost in the Khyber Pakhthunkhwa province of northwestern Pakistan, officials reported on Monday.
The attack, which occurred at around 1 a.m. at the Tor Chappur checkpost in Darra Adam Khel, involved scores of unidentified assailants opening fire from multiple sides. The intense gunfire exchange lasted for two and a half hours, said Kohat District Police Officer Zahidullah Khan.
The attackers aimed to overtake the checkpost, but their plans were thwarted. In the aftermath, police seized several improvised explosive devices and initiated a search operation. This incident highlights growing terror threats in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhthunkhwa and Balochistan, following increased attacks by the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.
