On Monday, Iran and France conveyed signs of advancement in negotiations concerning the release of two French citizens detained in Iran. A potential exchange for an Iranian national held in France is being considered.
Cecile Kohler and her partner Jacques Paris have been in Iranian custody since 2022, with France condemning their detention and conditions. Although the Islamic Republic rebuffs these allegations, diplomatic efforts persist.
Iranian spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei affirmed discussions about the release of these individuals in exchange for Mahdieh Esfandiari, an Iranian student in France. As France remains hopeful, outgoing Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot emphasized continued efforts to secure an imminent release.
