Senior CPI(M) leaders were summoned on Monday to the Kerala High Court regarding a contempt case pertaining to a protest in Kannur that reportedly interfered with traffic flow on the National Highway.

A panel of Justices Anil K Narendran and S Muralee Krishna witnessed the presence of CPI(M) notables, including P Jayarajan, M V Jayarajan, E P Jayarajan, and K V Sumesh MLA. The court instructed the leaders to detail their accounts of the incidents in affidavits, with the matter slated for further hearing post submission of the documents.

Speaking to journalists outside the courthouse, M V Jayarajan clarified that they would continue to comply with future summons if necessary. He emphasized that the protest was directed against the central government's neglect towards the state, not intended to obstruct traffic. The charges stem from a petition by N Prakash of Maradu, Ernakulam, accusing the leaders of organizing the February protest, which allegedly breached traffic flow and contravened court judgments.
