The Jharkhand High Court has demanded Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) to disclose its position on allocating funds to the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation for battling pollution in the coal mining hub. The directive was issued during a public interest litigation hearing on Monday.
The Gramin Ekta Manch filed the petition, highlighting concerns over escalating air pollution from coal transportation in Dhanbad. In response, Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar ordered BCCL to submit an affidavit detailing its financial commitment to pollution control.
While BCCL claims measures like covering coal transport trucks and water spraying, the court sought current pollution data, noting that previous information was outdated. The matter will be revisited on November 17.
