In a swift response, the Bar Council of India suspended advocate Rakesh Kishore on Monday for allegedly attempting to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India B R Gavai during court proceedings. The incident occurred at around 11:35 am in the Supreme Court, leading to immediate action by the apex bar body.
The Bar Council termed the incident a "prima facie" violation of professional conduct, inconsistent with the dignity of the court. Issuing an interim suspension order, BCI chairperson Manan Kumar Mishra condemned the act as a clear violation of the Advocates Act, 1961 and Bar Council of India Rules.
The suspension prohibits Kishore from practicing in any court across India and initiates disciplinary proceedings. The BCI has ordered an inquiry and required Kishore to respond to a show cause notice within 15 days. The decision was disseminated across judicial platforms to ensure compliance.
