In a startling extortion case, three men in Tamil Nadu were taken into custody for exploiting the names of BJP leaders, notably ex-Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai, to extort Rs 10 lakh. The accused, Thirumoorthy, Rasukutty, and Gokul, allegedly leveraged their supposed political connections to pressure the victim.

The incident unfolded when Arunachalam, the victim from Kumarapalayam in Annur, was assisted by the trio in filing an insurance claim, from which he received Rs 50 lakh. The accused demanded a hefty share, claiming BJP leaders had facilitated the transaction.

Concerns were raised when Arunachalam attempted to document this transaction, leading to threats of political reprisal. Following a social media revelation, Arunachalam filed a police complaint. Meanwhile, Annamalai, distancing himself, lodged a separate complaint, still under investigation by Annur Police.
