Taiwan is intensifying efforts to counter Chinese drone threats, as stated in a report by its Ministry of National Defence. The nation is training soldiers to intercept drones and plans to procure advanced anti-drone systems. This move is a direct response to frequent incursions by Chinese drones, especially around Taiwan's outlying islands.
Major General Sun Li-fang emphasized the rapid developments in drone technology, highlighting the need for effective defense measures. Taiwan's strategy includes conducting military exercises and observing China's grey-zone tactics, which refrain from direct armed conflict but assert pressure through means like drone incursions.
As military tensions with China rise, Taiwan aims to strengthen its partnership with the US, its largest unofficial ally, and increase its defense budget. The collaborative efforts with the US focus on regional security, with Taiwan already committing $761 million for an air defense system to combat drone threats.
