In a tragic case that has sparked significant political outrage, two men were arrested for their involvement in the lynching of a 40-year-old Dalit man, identified as Hariom Valmiki, in Uttar Pradesh. Police have now detained a total of 11 individuals concerning the case.
Shivam Agrahari and Hemant Kumar were apprehended on Wednesday night, adding to the list of accused. The incident occurred during a night vigil as villagers suspected Valmiki of being a thief, allegedly involved in drone-related robberies. Following this, five policemen have been suspended over negligence.
The violence has drawn sharp criticisms from political figures, with the Congress labeling it as a 'murder of humanity.' Former party chief Rahul Gandhi has also extended his support to the victim's family, questioning the prevailing social justice framework.
