In a stringent move, the local administration has invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against a man currently in judicial custody for allegedly abducting and raping an eight-year-old tribal girl. The decision aims to sustain public order in the wake of the heinous crime, according to police officials.

The decision to employ the NSA was backed by District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar, as confirmed by Bhadohi Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhimanyu Manglik. The NSA grants considerable authority to the Centre and states, allowing them to detain individuals deemed threatening to India's national security for up to 12 months without a court appearance.

The incident occurred on July 11 when the accused kidnapped the girl while she was asleep with her grandparents. The following day, police discovered the victim lying naked near the Kusa river. A suspect from Jaunpur district was apprehended after a confrontation with the police near a bridge on July 12. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, sealing the case for authorities.
