The Delhi High Court on Monday ruled that a plea by the Popular Front of India (PFI) challenging a tribunal's affirmation of the Central Government's five-year ban on the group is maintainable.

A bench composed of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela requested the Centre to file a response within six weeks. Subsequently, the PFI will have two weeks to submit their rejoinder, with a further hearing scheduled for January 20, 2026.

The PFI contests the March 21, 2024, decision of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act tribunal, which confirmed the ban initiated on September 27, 2022, against accusations of links with global terror outfits and spreading communal hatred. Over 150 individuals associated with PFI were detained in a national crackdown in September 2022.
