In a significant crackdown on mail theft, Canadian authorities have arrested eight Indian-origin men, facing over 300 charges. The operation, dubbed 'Project Undeliverable,' uncovered a network targeting residential mailboxes and recovered 465 pieces of stolen mail, including credit cards and cheques valued over CAD 400,000.
The extensive investigation was a joint effort by Peel police, Halton police, and Canada Post, initiated after numerous reports of mail theft trickled in. The suspects, aged 21 to 29, were found with 255 cheques, 182 credit cards, 35 government IDs, and 20 gift cards during September's search warrants.
The current legal proceedings involve discussing the potential deportation of some foreign nationals among the accused, in coordination with the Crown Attorney's Office and the Canada Border Services Agency.
