Odisha's Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her recent remarks advising female boarders against venturing out late at night. Parida deemed Banerjee's statements as disappointing, particularly coming from a female leader who should stand for women's empowerment.
Parida expressed that the comments have not only astonished her but also angered millions of women in West Bengal, stating that such remarks bring gender inequality and question women's rights. She urged empathy and justice for the Odia female victim, reminding that women's safety should be a priority.
The controversy arose after Banerjee's remarks followed an incident involving a student from Odisha who was allegedly gang-raped in Durgapur. In response, Odisha has sent a delegation to West Bengal to support the victim, highlighting their commitment to women's rights.
