The incident transpired near Kuki-dominated Yaolen village shortly after the state's Chief Minister, Y Khemchand Singh, called for peace and dialogue in the region. In the aftermath, conflicting community statements have emerged, with the Kuki Zo Council denying involvement in the violence.
