Tesla Settles Fatal Crash Lawsuit: Speeding and Safety Concerns Spotlighted
Tesla has settled a wrongful death lawsuit in Florida linked to a fatal 2018 crash involving its Model S sedan. Initially implicated, the case now only involves the driver’s estate. The crash occurred at high speed on a tight curve. Settlement terms remain undisclosed, while Tesla maintains no wrongdoing.
Tesla, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has settled a wrongful death lawsuit regarding a 2018 incident in which a teenager died in one of its vehicles. The settlement was announced as court proceedings commenced in Fort Lauderdale, focusing now solely on the driver's estate.
The tragic crash took place when the Tesla Model S, driven by an 18-year-old, exceeded the speed limit and struck two concrete walls, killing both the driver and a teenage passenger. Contentious issues arose over the alleged disabling of the car's speed-limiting software without the owner's knowledge.
Though Tesla has denied any wrongdoing, citing reckless driving as the cause, they have settled similar lawsuits previously. Details of this resolution remain confidential. The company's legal challenges continue, including an appeal against a previous substantial jury verdict related to another crash.
