Belgium Condemns Israeli Actions in Lebanon

Belgium's Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot criticized Israel's actions in Lebanon as 'totally unacceptable' during a statement before the EU foreign ministers' meeting in Luxembourg. The condemnation comes amidst rising tensions in the region.

Prevot stressed the need to censure Hezbollah's initial attacks, noting their role in escalating conflict by involving Lebanon in a war it neither anticipated nor desired. Nevertheless, he described Israel's counter-response as disproportionate and indiscriminate.

Seeking diplomatic recourse, Belgium advocates for a partial suspension of the EU's Association Agreement with Israel, although Prevot admitted that a full suspension seems unattainable due to differing stances among European nations.
