Congress Challenges Modi to Implement Women's Reservation Law Now

On Tuesday, Congress challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promptly implement the women's reservation law by applying the 33% quota to the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats, rather than waiting for a delimitation exercise.
Congress national spokesperson Ragini Nayak emphasized that while the women's quota Bill was passed unanimously in 2023 and remains a law, the Modi government has failed to enforce it for three years. Nayak urged Modi to take this opportunity to enhance his government's image by accepting the Congress's demand for immediate implementation and ensuring inclusion of women from backward classes.
Nayak accused the Modi administration of prioritizing politics over women's rights by delaying notification of the Bill until a sudden special session during the Tamil Nadu and West Bengal elections. She clarified that the Congress is determined to secure the 33% reservation for women and prevent any delimitation exercise that compromises representation for southern, northeastern, and smaller states.
