Tragic End: Financial Struggles Lead Retired Teacher Couple to Suicide

A retired teacher and his wife were discovered dead in an apparent suicide at their home in Kalaigaon, located in Assam's Udalguri district, on Wednesday, according to local officials. Authorities disclosed that financial hardships and long-standing illness drove the couple to take this drastic step.
The couple's two sons, who were reportedly away from home, were unable to contact their parents, leading them to request that neighbors check on the couple's well-being. Upon inspection, the neighbors found the deceased, Narendra Saikia and his wife Damayanti, hanging in their bathroom. Additionally, three bottles of pesticides were discovered nearby.
Law enforcement, accompanied by a magistrate and a forensic team, arrived swiftly at the scene to carry out an investigation. The bodies have since been transported to the Udalguri Civil Hospital for post-mortem examinations, officials have confirmed.
