Nine individuals were tragically killed in an assault on National Resources Ltd's copper and gold project in Balochistan, Pakistan, according to local officials. The attack occurred on Wednesday evening. The area has since been secured by security forces.
The Darigwan site, owned by National Resources Ltd, is part of a joint venture involving Lucky Cement, Fatima Fertilizer, and Liberty Mills. The attack claimed the lives of at least nine employees, including two security guards, as reported by an anonymous local official.
Balochistan is a mineral-rich region, adjacent to Afghanistan and Iran, plagued by security challenges. In response to increasing threats, Barrick Mining recently announced an extension of its review of the Reko Diq copper-gold project in the same area.
