In a significant crackdown, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) apprehended a man near the Indo-Nepal border on charges of drug trafficking. The operation led to the seizure of more than 327 kg of marijuana, estimated to be worth over Rs 20 crore, officials announced on Sunday.
Ranjeet Giri, a resident of Bihar's Gopalpur region, was reportedly caught with the narcotics in a truck, following a tip-off. However, the authorities are still on the hunt for another suspect who managed to evade capture. SSB Assistant Commandant Dinesh Chandra Biswas indicated that Giri had obtained the drugs from Nepal and was likely part of a larger smuggling network.
The arrested suspect has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau for further interrogation. Authorities are probing whether Giri was merely a courier in a more extensive drug syndicate as they intensify efforts to trace his accomplices.
