The United Nations has urged international action in response to the escalating violence and terrorism in the West Africa Sahel region, following Saturday's large-scale attacks. Government forces claim to have reasserted control, but clashes continue.
Amid these developments, Mali's government faces challenges in maintaining security after ousting Western forces in favor of Russian alliances. Meanwhile, the rebel groups have declared responsibility for recent coordinated attacks on strategic locations, including Kidal, which they claim to have recaptured.
