Taiwan Resilient Amidst China's European Arms Sanctions
Taiwan's defense minister claims China's sanctions on European firms won't hinder their arms procurement. Despite China's restrictions, Taiwan continues to explore alternative defense channels amidst warming ties with Eastern Europe and potential future collaborations with Japan, as relations between Japan and China remain tense.
Taiwan's defense minister has minimized the impact of Chinese sanctions on seven European companies linked to arms sales, asserting that such actions won't impede Taiwan's weapon sourcing efforts.
The Chinese Commerce Ministry's decision to restrict dual-use exports to these companies marks a notable sanction against Taiwan-European deals, reflecting ongoing geopolitical tensions. Significantly, Taiwan sources most of its weaponry from the United States, as Europe has been cautious about provoking China.
Amid increased European apprehension, Taiwan has strengthened connections with Central and Eastern Europe post-Ukraine conflict, and eyes collaboration with Japan, pending potential future defense agreements.
