Leh Apex Body Calls for Direct Dialogue with Home Minister Amid Long-Standing Ladakh Tensions

The Leh Apex Body (LAB) is pressing for direct discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his Ladakh visit next week, labeling the planned sub-committee meeting on May 22 as insufficient for resolving the region's enduring issues.

This reaction followed Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena's Sunday announcement of a sub-committee meeting for political dialogue with Ladakh representatives. Talks have been ongoing since 2021, focusing on a four-point agenda, including Ladakh's statehood and constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule.

LAB members, led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and co-chair Chering Dorjay, express concern over the lack of decision-making at the secretarial level, urging the Home Minister to chair a meaningful meeting in Ladakh to foster confidence and clear future directions.
