Congress MP R Sudha on Wednesday strongly condemned the enrollment of A G Perarivalan, a convict in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, in the bar council of Tamil Nadu and wanted his immediate removal. She terming the enrollment of Perarivalan as a ''black day for the judiciary.'' Stating that she has written a letter to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India, Union Law Minister and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to take action against the enrollment of Perarivalan, the Mayilduthurai member of parliament said as a lawyer she will not let Perarivalan into high court premises. ''He can't wear the robe and access the legal document in the court'', she told PTI Videos. Demanding the bar council of Tamil Nadu to immediately remove Perarivalan, she said action should also be taken against those who supported and were involved in this issue. She also pointed out that Perarivalan, an ''LTTE supporter'', was convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and served 31 year in jail. ''He was released only on mercy petition'', she claimed. The Congress leader's demand comes two days after Perarivalan enrolled as a lawyer. Perarivalan (54) donned the black robes on April 27. He would practice in the Madras High Court focusing on legal aid for prisoners. He was arrested in 1991 when he was 19 years old, allegedly for supplying a 9-volt battery for an explosive device used in the killing of Gandhi in May 21 that year at nearby Sriperumbudur by a female suicide bomber during an election rally. Besides Gandhi and his assassin, 14 others were also killed in the blast.
