Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took decisive action after the tragic collapse of a hospital wall that claimed seven lives, suspending an executive engineer held responsible for the incident. During a high-level review meeting, Siddaramaiah emphasized the need for accountability and preventive measures.
The tragedy struck following a heavy rainstorm that uprooted trees and wreaked havoc across Bengaluru. Compensation of Rs 5 lakh was announced and distributed to the families of the deceased victims by Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad. The victims included residents from Bengaluru and visitors from other states, caught unawares as they sought shelter near the wall.
In a stern move, the Chief Minister questioned the lack of monitoring and asked why soil was irresponsibly dumped near the wall. Siddaramaiah directed immediate action to address infrastructural issues and to clear silt from drains to avert future flooding. An investigation into the incident is underway.
