India's SVAMITVA scheme is making waves in rural land governance by digitizing property records through drone mapping, unlocking an estimated Rs 135 lakh crore in rural land assets.
According to a study by IIM Ahmedabad and the World Bank, more than 10,900 loans totaling Rs 1,679 crore have been granted using property cards generated by the scheme.
Launched in 2020, SVAMITVA has mapped around 3.30 lakh villages, resulting in 3.14 crore property cards across 1.89 lakh villages, significantly enhancing credit access, financial autonomy, and reducing land disputes.
