Three police officers in Odisha's Koraput district have been suspended following the custodial death of a 23-year-old man. Officials revealed that Sub-Inspector Bikram Sahu, along with Karn Pujari and Budhiram Majhi, were implicated for negligence.
According to Superintendent of Police Sandeep Sampad Madkar, preliminary evidence suggests the detainee, Purna Kalar, committed suicide in custody due to the officers' dereliction of duty. In light of this, suspensions have been enacted, with further legal proceedings anticipated.
The death has triggered widespread outrage among locals, leading to public demonstrations, including attacks on the police station and road blockages. A post-mortem examination was completed at Nabarangpur's district headquarters hospital. Additional SP Aditya Sen is spearheading the investigation.
